WAMCI President Re-election and Second-Term Commencement Ceremony

WAMCI officially inaugurated its 11th Board and celebrated the re-election of President Susan Yang at a ceremony held on the morning of June 7, 2025, at the Queensland Taiwan Centre. President Yang, who previously served as the association’s 10th president, has been re-elected and formally commenced her second term as the 11th president.

The ceremony brought together an esteemed group of guests, including William Fan, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brisbane; Charles Ouyang, Director of the Queensland Taiwan Centre; Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), Taiwan representatives Melody Chen, Phyllis Lo, and Florence Day; Wayne Ko, Chair of the Queensland Federation Taiwanese Associations; Emily Huang, Senior Advisor of OCAC, Taiwan; honorary officials; presidents of Taiwanese community organisations; association members; and members of the local Taiwanese community. Approximately 40 guests attended to celebrate this significant milestone.

Hosted by former president Edward Lin, the ceremony opened with remarks from Founding President Melody Chen, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the continued support of distinguished guests and the broader community. She highlighted WAMCI’s ongoing commitment to fostering multicultural exchange between Taiwan and Australia.

In his congratulatory speech, William Fan commended President Yang for her longstanding dedication to organising cultural activities and exhibitions that have strengthened artistic and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Australia. He noted that her efforts have been widely recognised for showcasing Taiwan’s rich multicultural heritage. Mr Fan also presented a congratulatory certificate on behalf of Hsu Chia-Ching, Minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Taiwan.

During the ceremony, President Yang presented certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts to the association’s advisors and board members, acknowledging their years of selfless service and support. She also introduced the newly appointed members of the 11th Board.

Following the formal proceedings, guests were invited to a reception that provided a warm and welcoming space for networking and conversation. The event concluded on a positive note, marking a new chapter for WAMCI as it continues to promote multiculturalism and strengthen cultural ties between Taiwan and Australia.
